Ad Bowl 2016: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

The Good: Advil “Distant Memory”

For a product as mundane as a pain reliever, Advil did a pretty good job of reminding us how dull life would be without them. It was realistic, it was well executed and above all else it caught our attention.

The Good: Hyundai’s “Ryanville”

Not that this even needs explaining but who doesn’t like the idea of town full of Ryan Reynolds?  Well played Hyundai, well played.

The Good: Budweiser #NotBackingDown

We were prepared to shed a few tears as always but Budweiser threw us a curveball and we aren’t complaining. Their message was good, they stayed true to their brand and they reminded us that they’re standing their ground as a timeless classic in the midst of a craft beer frenzy.

The Good: Heinz “Weiner Stampede”

Yet again another every day product we wouldn’t usually give much thought, caught our attention and even better made us laugh.  Weiner dogs dressed as hot dogs running towards their Heinz product owners?  Yep, we love it.

The Good: Honda

Maybe it was the food coma we were entering into at this point but something about a heard of sheep singing Queen when their owner wasn’t around, got us laughing and that’s really all you can ask for.

The Bad: Coca-Cola

Coke has historically been a game changer when it comes to creative, thought provoking, or just plain catchy ads.  This year was not that way for coke and we weren’t happy about it. Although we’re sure the creative Hulk vs. Ant-Man ad reached a particular audience, it did not grab our attention and in a health conscious society coke really needed to step up their game.

The Bad: Bud Light  “The Bud Light Party”

It had so much potential. Amy Schumer, Seth Rogan, we expected more from you.

The Ugly: Doritos

Dear Doritos, not only did you leave us terrified, you took away any desire we had to snack on your chips in the near future. You sparked children around the country to ask their parents, “Is that really how babies are born?” Way to let the cat of out the bag, Doritos.  We know one snack that won’t be in school lunches anytime soon.
