FAREWELL, FOOTBALL

As college football season came to an abrupt close this week – and let’s be honest, the NFL doesn’t really count for the majority of Alabamians – a few things came up in the conversation: next season, pre-season rankings, quarterbacks, staff and player replacements, and, naturally, what ARE we going to watch on Thursdays-Saturdays until August? We love everything about college football. We spend many-a-Monday talking over “what the heck happened” or “the defense was really on” during football season. It consistently dominates our conversations and, as a girl who spent years working in the industry, I always try to maintain some semblance of knowledge about the sport.

During the 2013 season, I was able to catch up with ESPN’s Desmond Howard, a former work acquaintance and just about one of the nicest people you’ll meet, to talk a little football over lunch at Bottega Cafe. Hence the photo here. And I’ll tell you… he was not amused that prior to the LSU-Alabama matchup, I fully believed the Crimson Tide would go to Pasadena. (We all need an ego check from time to time, right?)

As exhilarating as it was, the 2013 college football season did not end victoriously for the Tide or the Tigers… which fuels us to look forward to next season even more fervently. So for now, let’s just enjoy speculating on all the coaching changes, Combine performances and draft picks. So until the fall, happy speculating!
